This summer has been very busy, but it has been different. We started the season off fairly quietly and was thinking we were going to be affected by the world recession. However it didnt end up that way. In the past we have had many bookings, especially from Britain, and they are booked well in advance. As an example we have already taken a booking for the summer of 2012, well over a year ahead. However the summer of 2011 was mainly last minute bookings. The interesting thing is we have seen many people from different parts of the world that we havent had the pleasure before. Is this because they leave it to the last minute to book, or has the recession made people wait ...just in case....Anyways..the good thing is we have still had customers, which of course is why we are in this, to help pay for our daughter to be able to snowboard in her quest to make the Canadian Olympic team. Check out her website MarianneLeeson.com she keeps a blog of her activities and training schedule.
Some of our wonderful guests have travelled to see us from France, Germany, UK, USA, India, Antigua, China, Netherlands and Canada, just to name a few. It was nice to have guests from countries we havent hosted before, namely India and China. The strange thing is some years we get a large percentage from one specific country. This year the bulk of visits were from France and the USA. Our UK guests have been very slow though, we attribute that to a very poor exchange rate for them and the recession. Keeping our fingers crossed that things will get better for them soon.
Anyways our new ensuite bedroom at the B&B has been a big hit, being the first choice for many customers over any of the other rooms. Of course the Roseland suite is always a hit, especially with families with kids. This gives them the freedom of being home away from home and can be isolated in their private enclave.
The summer here this year has been extremely hot. The solar pool heater has been keeping the pool in the high 80's and at one time had to turn it off as the pool was becoming more like a hot tub. Talking of which, out hot tub has been out of commision for a couple of weeks. Both pumps needed repairing, but the cost is not the annoying thing here. I hate the fact that it was not available for our guests during our busy period, but to me it is unacceptable that a hot tub that is less than 2 years old needs the pumps repairing. The upside is that it has been so hot weatherwise that most people havent missed it...Anyways hopefully soon it will be back in operation especially with the cooler nights looming in the distance.
Our tent trailers have again been popular , but that season will be winding down soon. We purchased a new trailer this season, and hopefully will be selling one or maybe 2 of our older units. We dont like to keep them for more than 3 years as we want to have a quality product, and the newer the trailer the better. Trailertent.ca if anyone is interested in a pop up camper for the fall or next season.
Anyways....having a great season....happy travels and come and visit us in Burlington, Ontario...great location for visiting Niagara Falls or Toronto....stayBurlington.com for more info...
